New Delhi: Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Modern Love, Mumbai’ is an anthology featuring 6 beautiful love stories. Prominent filmmakers of Indian cinema – Hansal Mehta, Vishal Bhardwaj, Nupur Asthana, Shonali Bose, Dhruv Sehgal and Alankrita Srivastava explore the different shades of love in the city of dreams, Mumbai.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Hansal Mehta, who directed Bai in the anthology, talked about the story of the ‘weird kiss’ between Prateek Gandhi and Ranveer Brar. He said, “The intention was not to tease. And one must understand, Manju’s character comes from years of repression. He is not going to suddenly wake up and start kissing like Dean Martin. It is a way of showing that repression. There was effort. Some people messaged me asking why they are so weird. I said ‘I’m glad you see it’s weird’. When you meet someone for the first time, you feel emotional, But you won’t have that perfect kiss. It’s a progression. That’s what we tried to show. I don’t know why people need it to be perfect.”
Bai Manjar (Prateik Gandhi) and Rajveer (Ranveer Brar) have a love story. The short film has received all the love for depicting the LGBTQ community and gay romance. Bai is played by veteran actress Tanuja, who appears in the strong matriarchal role of a grandmother.
‘Modern Love, Mumbai’ started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on May 13, 2022 in 240 countries and territories.
