London: Hollywood star Johnny Depp spent $62,000 or Rs 48.22 lakh for a special festive curry dinner with his friends on Sunday evening in Birmingham, England.
Depp attended the feast of “Authentic Indian Cuisine”. Cocktails and rose champagne at the Varanasi restaurant, which serves “heavenly cuisine and a soothing ambiance”, reports nypost.com.
According to Nypost.com, the actor scored a major victory on Wednesday when he was awarded a $10.35 million verdict in a brutal defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, 36.
Depp was billed as “Birmingham’s biggest Indian restaurant” along with his musician friend and collaborator Jeff Beck, 77, and 20 others from their party.
Depp is staying in the United Kingdom to join Beck on his tour. He also appeared on several guitarists’ shows, including one at the Royal Albert Hall in London late last month.
The father of two traveled to Birmingham to perform on stage with Beck for his show at the city’s Symphony Hall. As Daily Mail reports, Depp and his crew arrived at the trendy eatery by 7 p.m. and posed for photos with fans.
The 20,000-square-foot restaurant was closed so Depp and his friends could eat alone, and they left around midnight.
Mohammad Hussain, Varanasi’s director of operations, told the outlet: “On Sunday afternoon we got a call out of the blue saying that Johnny Depp wants to have dinner with a group of people.”
“I was shocked, and at first, I thought it might be a breeze (joke). But then their security team arrived[and]checked the restaurant, and we gave them the whole place because we were worried that they might be in the other room.” Can be bothered by eaters,” he continued.
Hussain narrated how the chef prepared a feast for the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star which included dishes like Sheesh Kebab, Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka Masala, Lamb Karahi and Tandoori King Prawn.
The executive also shed some light on the evening, noting that Depp was a “very sweet, straightforward person.”
“(He) spent a lot of time talking to the staff, our friends and family and it was a pleasure posing for pictures with him. You would never have thought he was such a big star. He had so much time for all of us. , “Husain created a ruckus, ‘nypost.com’ reports.
Hussain also said that he had promised he would not disclose the total bill, but added that “money was not an issue, and it was easily in the five digits.”
He continued, “We made more money from Depp’s trip than we did on the busiest night of the week, which is a Saturday when we have about 400 diners.” The feast ended with simple cheesecakes and panna cotta for dessert.
Hussein then recalled the most surprising moment of the night, when Depp “wanted a little break from everyone” for about 20 minutes and sat down with her in his office.
Hussain said the A-lister wanted people to watch CCTV in his office and was interested in the way the cameras worked.
He explained that he did not ask the Kentucky native about the court case. Hussain said, “It was just a nice conversation with a very polite person. I’m still pinching myself, because I never dreamed that Johnny Depp would talk about this in my office.” How does CCTV work in restaurants?
