Mumbai: The Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer ‘Badhaai Do’ was screened at the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival – South Asia’s biggest LGBTQIA+ film festival. The film is one of the few rare commercial films that has an LGBTQIA+ story at its heart.
Established in 2010, Kashish has become an important medium for the production, production and distribution of LGBTQIA+ films. It has been voted as one of the top 5 LGBT film festivals in the world, and is one of the top 5 film festivals in India.
Commenting on the occasion, Rajkummar Rao said, “I am grateful that the audience resonated so well with our film. Now that the glory month has arrived, and celebrating it with a film on a platform like Kashish Which is very close to me. Really heartwarming.”
The festival will screen over 190 films from 53 countries at Liberty Cinemas from June 1 to June 5. Kashish is the first Indian LGBTQ+ festival to be organized with the approval of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
Talking about the film festival, director Harshvardhan Kulkarni said in a statement, “It is an honor and privilege to be able to screen our film at Kashish 2022, South Asia’s largest LGBTQ+ film festival. We are proud of it. Glad that the film has been accepted. With so much love and is being screened on this wonderful platform in ‘Proud Ke Month’. The film’s team along with Rajkummar Rao, Chum Darang, Harshvardhan Kulkarni and Amrita Pandey, CEO, Junglee Pictures were also present at the screening of the film.
Junglee Pictures’ Badhaai Do is directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni with a screenplay by Akshat Ghildiyal and Suman Adhikari. The film, which released in theaters on February 11, was distributed worldwide by Zee Studios.
