Los Angeles: “Aquaman” actress Amber Heard cannot pay US$10 million in damages to Johnny Depp after a jury ruled in favor of Depp in a defamation lawsuit, her lawyer, Ellen Breedhoft, told TODAY.

Defamation lawsuit between Depp and Heard ends on June 1 As the jury ruled, Heard defames Depp with his 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Asked by TODAY if Heard would be able to afford the $10 million in damages that were being ordered to be paid, Breidhoft replied bluntly, “Oh no. Absolutely not.”

Elaine told TODAY that she believes Johnny Depp’s legal team acted to “pretend” Heard and was able to suppress “a lot of evidence” in the defamation lawsuit.

“Many things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and that confused the jury”, she said.

Breedhoft compared the US court’s decision to a 2020 case in the United Kingdom in which Depp lost a defamation suit against Sun, a British tabloid, for calling her a “wife beater”.

“And the court found there, and we were not allowed to tell that to the jury, but the court found that Mr. Depp had committed at least 12 acts of domestic violence, including sexual violence, against Amber,” Breedhoft said. “So what did Depp’s team learn from this? Demonstrate amber, and suppress the evidence.”

Heard, who sued Depp for US$100 million, was awarded US$2 million by a jury after a defamatory statement was found against him by Depp. Breedhoft said Hurd wants to appeal the decision.
